Hexie BOM Table Topper!

I was feeling rather down when I went to bed last night. It was one of those days, like we all have occasionally. You know what I mean, I'm sure…

But this morning I found this on the Hexie Love Facebook page! Look what Cathy Mann did with the 2014 BOM patterns! She made this amazing table topper!

Here's what she said about it:

Hot off the press, my finished hexagon BOM table topper. I used 7 of the blocks, ( with the intention of making place mats from the others at a later date), and repeated that cute little bird design on both ends. Each block was made in the shape of a bigger hexagon and quilted with Perle no 8 and big stitching. I used another 200 hexagons for joining the blocks and more again for the back to keep the edge. Each shape is back-stitched with embroidery floss and embellished with beads, and all edges are back-stitched as well.
Thanks so much, Julia, this has been great fun! So looking forward to next year and the new magazine and BOM! ( some fabric accidently followed me home in readiness for it )

Cathy, you don't even know how much I needed to see this at this moment! I woke up in a blah mood and you put the biggest smile on my face! Thank you so much!!!!! :)

This morning I'm having a photo shoot for the magazine. It will be me, a camera, and some projects. Then I'll work more on my 2014 Hexie BOM quilt. And I'll make cornbread for my Thanksgiving dressing. This year we're scaling Thanksgiving down a bit. Fewer people. Less food. For the first time in recent memory, we bought a smoked turkey instead of my roasting one. It will still be a wonderful day though!

  1. Now that is just too perfect!!! I am so impressed with that hexagon background, too and it is quite well balanced with the birdies on each end. I am anxious to see what all the group can come up with as there seem to be some very talented people participating here! You are truly a good inspiration, and Julia - this has been a great journey. Looking forward to the fun to come! THANKS AGAIN - Nancy

  2. So you appliqued those hexies onto a bigger white Hexagon, Cathy? that is really a cute idea.
I love your color choices too. I have trouble with colors--I think I only choose of what "goes" in my house or colors I like to wear. It is difficult to step out of those parameters....I am in a "fix" with my Monet's City Hexagon project as all the edges ended up differently. Perhaps appliqueing is the answer...hugs, Julierose

  3. aw, now I have been given a big surprise by being the blog topic today ( insert sniffle and damp eyes!) So glad to cheer up a blech sort of day!
Julierose, I am often disappointed in my colour choices ( too dull, too much the same etc) so for this project I used a range of Moda 4 inch squares already stacked together -the blue for the birds was the only colour I had to add.
I am looking forward to seeing other finishes as well Nancy, there has been some really wonderful fabric choices in the group which I know will look incredible!

  5. I am VERY pleased to include a number of Cathy's fibre pieces in my collection of artistic endeavors, and even more pleased to see her get the recognition she deserves. She is a very inventive, clever artist, always find fresh ways to express herself with fabric and thread!

  7. That is a great way to put the blocks together! I'm not a fan of appliqué, so I may have to work on something like this with the blocks when I do them next year! Beautiful!
