Hexie Necklace!

I love to get pictures in my e-mail! This one came in from Jeanie in Aberdeen, Washington. She bought Quick and Easy Hexie Quilts and used the technique to create this ADORABLE necklace. Does it get any better? I don't think so!!!! Thanks, Jeanie, for sharing!

Tah-Done: My Hexie Mania!

I put the final few stitches on my Hexie Mania quilt this morning. LOVE IT! Happy little lap quilt.

I'm working hard to pull together class samples for my Chattanooga classes in September - I'm making tons of progress this week!!!! It's a good feeling to be productive. :)

Happy Birthday to me!

I'm enjoying a very relaxing quiet birthday - exactly what I wanted!!! I spent the morning in my studio making the binding and sleeve for my latest quilt. Yes, it's hexies! I'll share it in a few days.

The Quilt Life August issue came out this week - the one with my quilt pattern and article in it!

Here's a sneak peek. If you want to learn how to make hexies from circles, it's all in here! Hope you enjoy it.

Eureka!

I've been looking for something for a LONG time and I finally found it tonight! Couldn't wait to share!

When Peggy and I wrote Quick and Easy Hexie Quilts, I used the photo editing software, Picnik, to design Mickey Blue Eyes. Picnik was about to pixelate the photo into hexagon shapes. But, (woe is me!) Picnik was bought out by Google before our book hit the press - I had to be vary vague about that quilt's instructions since I didn't know of another way to get the hexie pixels.

Here's Mickey Blue Eyes, the quilt:

This quilt won First Place last year in the GO! Have Fun Challenge. And I thought it might be the last hexie portrait quilt I would ever make.

But tonight, after YEARS of googling and searching, I found a way to do it again!!!! It's called DX Interactive Mosaic Maker.  It's free! Just upload a photo:

Click on "Hexagon" for the shape requested and voila:

It may be hard to see above, but those are definitely hexie pixels! Click on the photo enlarge and see better. A hexie portrait of Leo just might be in my future!

Can you tell I'm excited????????

Big Hexies!

I have big hexies on my design wall! I'll be teaching Hexie Mania at Chattanooga in September - a fabulous quilt with no batting or backing needed. Very easy and fast! Peggy designed this and made the quilt in Quick and Easy Hexie Quilts. But I needed to make one of these before I teach the class - kind of hard to teach something you've never done! :)

I just need a few more hexies before I start sewing it together. I can tell I need to move some of the hexie blocks around before that happens.

I have a question for you-

What's the smallest size hexie you've made? I'm working on a mini one now, pictures soon - mine are 1/4. #eyestrain!

2014 Hexie BOM: JULY!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for...

ICE CREAM!

It's hot, hot, HOT here in the deep South of the US! I know some of you are in areas of the world that are cold now, but not us -

And we like to cool off with a nice ice cream cone! Two scoops! My flavors are chocolate and strawberry. What flavors will you choose?

(I took this photo a few weeks ago while at the lake - what a nice place to stitch hexies!)
